Color, value, and hue

Color is a term used for the whole subject, red, yellow, blue, green, orange and so on. Hues is used for pure spectrum colors. Value is the relative lightness and darkness of a color, it defines form and creates spatial illusions. Contrast of value separates objects in space.

Color wheel and RGB color wheel

If the visible portion of the light spectrum is divided into thirds, the predominant colors are red, green and blue. These three colors are considered the primary colors of the visible light spectrum.Primary colors can be arranged in a circle, commonly refered to as a color wheel. Red, green and blue (RGB) form a triangle on the color wheel. In between the primary colors are the secondary colors, cyan, magenta and yellow (CMY), which form another triangle.

Additive Color System (RGB).The additive color system involves light emitted directly from a source, before an object reflects the light. The additive reproduction process mixes various amounts of red, green and blue light to produce other colors. Combining one of these additive primary colors with another produces the additive secondary colors cyan, magenta, yellow. Combining all three primary colors produces white. Television and computer monitors create color using the primary colors of light. Each pixel on a monitor screen starts out as black. When the red, green and blue phosphors of a pixel are illuminated simultaneously, that pixel becomes white. This phenomenon is called additive color.

What, what, a fluorescent fish?

It took 3 years but Dr. Gong Zhiyuan, from the Department of Biological Sciences, and his team created a zebra fish that radiate a greenish glow under special light. Also they produced a fish that changes color when swimming through different temperature water. This fish became know as a Transgenic fish.
Briefly, the process involves injecting a green fluorescent protein that is isolated from jelly fish, onto the embryo of the Zebra fish which is cheap and easy to breed. This is known as micro-injection, using a very fine needle. In order for this to tbe successful, a suitable " fish gene promoter" must be identified. There are three kinds of promoters - one is skin specific, which means that the green fluorescent gene injected into the embryo will only affect the skin of the fish when the embryo develops. The second type is muscle-specific and the third type will enable a uniform colour in the entire fish. The research on treansgenic fish however, is not only for commercial purpose. It can also enable us to further understand the function ot the genepromoters. Because green colour is a convenient cellular marker, the green fluorescent treansgenic fish will facilitate cell lineage and cell migration studies in embryology. It is also a good marker for cell transplantation and nuclear transplantation experiments such a s fish cloning. Transgenic fish can also be engineered to detect environmental pollution, for example.

Neon

A neon sign is a very simple device. It consists of a vacuum-tight glass tube, fitted at each end with an electrode. Inside the tube is a small amount of rare gas. Connected to the two electrodes is a source of high-voltage electrical power. When the current is turned on, the tube glows with a steady piercing light. The rare gases, neon, argon, helium, xenon and krypton, are ideally suited for use in signs. The two most common gases used in neon signs are neon and argon. While neon is very bright, argon's light is weak due to its low resistance. Neon gas gives off a red glow. This gas is normally contained in tubing that is clear in color, and when illuminated, projects the brightest red color. Almost everything else is filled with argon gas. When you see yellow, blue, green, white or any of several other shades, these tubes are filled with argon gas.

Hows its so shiny?

So for this blog Pat told me to find out what was in metallic paint to make it shiny? So after some research I found out that there are tiny bits of actual metal in the paint and the light reflects of the metal surfaces that gives it that shiny.

Dinosaur Fart extra beans

In ths picture the brand Gatorade uses colors based on flavor, like this is a light blue for the flavor frost. Because when you think of frost you think of the cold so the company uses a cool color, blue. The lighting bolt is orange, a warm color, representing power in this case. Which Gatorade is an energy drink so power representing energy.

Dinosaur fart

The use of yellows or other warm colors, red and orange, is a bright color that draws attention so it is recongize in society as hazards. For example red is used for stop signs to draw attention to the sign because of the drastic change of color and contrast against the surroundings. Orange is used for construction, to be aware of workers and road pattern changes. In this picture the yellow is used to show caution to the driver that there is cement to hold the pole, therefore the driver can see this easily and not hit the pole.

What the hell?

I really disliked this project we did based off of LeWitt works. To me it makes no sense what so ever. It is a pointless piece in which takes no skill or no meaning. The only good thing that would come out of this piece is that it brings the people who worked on it, together. The unity in that is the only thing I can understand in which I don't even know if that is what the artist was trying to get across with doing this.

Oh my, what have we done?

Well first of all, when writing up this activity I didn't realize what kind of problem it was going to create, pretty much just because it is harmful. So in my activity of smoking cigarettes, I had to add to my sheet a caution label and a oath in which pointing out the risk and knowledge of the risk and that it is the persons own fault for taking part, which had to be signed by the person. Overall I think my activity went very well and to plan. Plus both of the people were smokers so they seemed to enjoy it. I also got some great action shots with Thiana nice camera. I also participated in a couple of other peoples activities like in Chul's where I had to speak german to Saraswati which was really hard because she was speaking spanish back to me. So I just said some pretty random stuff about the weather and such. Also I did Chris's activity with Jill on high fiving. And me and Chul caught each other as we fell backwards into each other arms.

Logos, logos everywhere, where they'll stop, NOONE knows

A logo is a symbol, or icon to represent something, usually something in the commercial world, that is trademark for that brand. I picked the Ford mustang logo because not only is it one of the greatest cars ever made but also because it is very known for what it stands for. It, like most logos, is very simple with just the outline of a horse running with three bars of red, white, and blue behind it showing America, and American made.

The Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even

when I first looked at this piece, or two pieces, I was extremely confused, I knew there was also a story that goes along with it, but couldn't thinkm of anything possible to explain this, I thought it was just a meaningless abstract piece. After reading Duchamp writings I kind of started to put everything together and realized the complexity and thoughts that went into both the writing and the artwork. To which at some points I am still confused. I think it's great how they relate to each other, I just wished I could understand it better.

Pattern, the Islamic way

Pattern is the repeating of objects or colors or other types of form that project themselves over and over again. In the Islamic culture the bases of pattern is used for almost anything that is decorative to them. In pots, buildings, fabric. The use of both colors and forms are used to create these pieces. In buildings the use of pattern in the floor consists of mostly blues, golds, and whites floor tiles and other shades around those color. Also the same in the wall coverings. In the fabric it's patterns of those colors but mostly in the form of natural organic nature forms.

I couldn't really decide on my piece. I couldn't really think of anything to do with the scale. This was a rawing warm up we did in school once, so i decided to use that.

Let's tie up Chris

Well the string activity was so much fun, until it became time to roll it all back up. I started off with actually making a web with my string, but then grew into a huge mess with trying to tie up Chris, Jill, and Thiana. When this started to happen it went from a line exercise to a complete knot with Chris in the middle bound to his chair and Jill attached to him and Thiana just kind of chilling there. I got out easy, which was good I guess, because of the fire drill where Chris and Jill had to stay upstairs because they were still tied up. And against my beliefs we did finally roll all of the string back up.

Line or shape?

A) I've come to believe that this is a line over a shape. It is a line that is either starting off thin and gets fatter as it goes, or the opposite, starts off wide and gets thinner. B) This to me also comes as a line. A wavy line that is thinner at both the start and the end, but thicker in middle. It looks to be a chisel tip that is twisted in the middle to create the thicker line. C) This looks like a shape, a rectangle. Or could also be a very thick line. D) And finally this is a shape. It is a soolid object that doesn't let anything in, or anything out.

Critique 1

This is a picture as which from this pc looks like mostly like cut up black construction paper in shape of squares and rectangles, with 7 color pieces in the bottom right. The pieces are on a white background. The smaller black squares in the top portion are really the only pattern.
I am trying to find the meaning of this piece, but having extreme trouble doing so. Im looking at the color pieces at the bottom for the answers, but still can't think of anything. The only thing I can think of is a statement of segergation, but not sure.
My personal opinion of this piece is that it sucks. There is no meaning, or I'm just missing it. To create this piece requires no skill, and is very boring. I would not stop to view this piece if it was the last piece of art left in the world, and to be honest I have no idea why I even picked this piece to critique.
